Sex in Public - Why is it so Tempting?
The breeze playing with your hair, the soft grass beneath your feet, the swirling scent of wet moss and rain clouds. Nope, this isn’t a pleasant woodland stroll, but an illicit, snatched moment off the beaten trail. Whether it’s a detour on a nature walk or a quickie in your car, sex in public is a tantalizing prospect. But why?
The Fear Factor
Firstly, fear is an aphrodisiac. So the thrill of getting caught, of having someone stumble across your tryst, is guaranteed to send shivers down your spine. Trust us – there’s science to back this up. Our brains releases dopamine when we’re engaged in exciting situations, which contributes to the desire for sexual activity. So when your synapses are all firing in the scared-but-turned-on direction, the resultant raised heart rate, tingly feelings and heightened sensitivity are nothing if not stimulating. “I’m scared – what if someone sees us?” Yup, that’s exactly why you’re doing what you’re doing.
Just Watch
On the other side of the coin, deliberately trying to be caught can also be hugely exciting. Ever heard of agoraphilia? That’s when the prospect of someone watching you at your most intimate – and, let’s face it, your sexiest – turns you on. Being the subject of a voyeur is hot because it’s just flat-out naughty. Society tells us – for good reason, mostly – that we shouldn’t be seen while having sex. So when we go against the norms, it’s electrifying. Not to mention, being seen having sex can trip your pleasure kink wires: the concept of being aroused by other people’s arousal. That’s a win for everyone.
Wild Thing
Or maybe it’s not that deep. Sometimes it’s fun to just do something a little bit wild. If you’re used to a reliable sex schedule in the same place at the same time and with the same person (and hey, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that!), then spicing things up a bit might float your boat.
There are ways of starting out safely, too. Instead of running off down abandoned alleys with your partner, or joining the mile-high club, why not begin by taking a camping trip and making out under the stars first? You can then graduate to some garden lovin’, or hooking up on a secluded beach. And don’t forget to look online, too. There are supportive communities – and a surprising number of local sex clubs – to investigate, who play by the rules and take safety very seriously.
We feel we should warn you: public sex isn’t technically legal in most places. While it is quite difficult to police, we recommend not whipping your clothes off in broad daylight and going at it down the local park. That would be too boring, anyway. It’s the sneaking and the darkness and the secrecy that makes sex in public so breath-taking.
