Bring the heat! (And the cold) Temp play in the bedroom

Between the sheets, your skin produces beads of sweat when you get intimate with a partner. But the skin does more than regulate body temperature - the skin has sensory receptors just waiting to be explored.

One way you can explore thrilling sensations is temperature play - where warm or cool objects are (safely!) applied to the skin to create new feelings and experiences.

Temperature play uses heat and cold on the skin to stimulate pleasure and sometimes with a titillating combination of sweet pain. It is commonly combined with a blindfold and/or bondage. Temperature play isn't exclusive to BDSM and has simple techniques that you can use to keep things fresh in the bedroom.

If you consider doing temperature play with your partner, seek their consent and discuss boundaries and expectations.

Have a smooch-fest with a warm or icy kiss

Take some sips of warm water or tea and kiss your partner afterward. It's that simple! Alternatively, if you want to go the ice way, place ice cubes in between the lips, and tease your partner’s mouth. As the ice melts, proceed to give more passionate kisses. Starting off with intentional kisses in this way sets the stage for incredible sex.

Ice cubes on body parts

Ice on the nipple, under the breast, the chest, thighs, and belly buttons can give your partner exquisite pleasure. When using ice cubes on the skin, make sure they have begun to melt so that they are drippy and slippery on the body (and not stick-to-the-skin cold! Nobody wants a Christmas Story moment during sex!). Or try having sexy times somewhere chilly.

Massage with warm oil

If you want to give an erotic massage, why not incorporate temperature play by using some warmed oil? Mildly heat some coconut oil (or any edible/skin-safe scented oil) and drip it over your partner's back. Always test before putting on your partner’s skin. Move your hands slowly and gently across the part you have applied the oil to help them relax. Begin to massage in a circular motion from the lower back and gradually move upward.

Chilly hands and a warm mouth

Many times we find ourselves using our hands and mouth at once. Make your partner feel both temperatures simultaneously by using chilled fingers or hands and a warm mouth. Chill hands with melted ice and drink some warm water alongside. While your warm tongue can work on the clitoris or penis, your cold hands can slip into the vagina or stimulate the balls.

Ice cream is a delight

Make ice cream drip on parts of your partner's body and lick all those sweetness away with your tongue. The chest, nipple, neck are good targets. Remember that ice cream is a dairy product that contains sugar. As such, it shouldn't be used on the vagina to prevent yeast infection. While the penis may be more resilient, penile yeast infection is also a thing.

Toys aren’t left out

Body-safe borosilicate glass and metal toys work great for temperature shifts. Chill up or warm sex toys before using them. Cold dildos can be inserted into the vagina or anally. Nipple rings are super-duper and can be popped into warm water or the freezer to stimulate the nipple.

The versatility of temperature play provides so many possibilities for solo play or partnership play. It doesn't require any special skill and is downright sexy. With a little creativity here and there, you can find out more fun ways to do temperature play.
